Renegade! Here we come! September 14, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — ilikeyoublog @ 6:28 pm

I know I didn’t finish my post on the state fair! I should have just made the list of food I ate – I could write it on my butt, since it has gotten significantly larger after visiting the fair a grand total of 5 times!! – Yes! I ate my fill all five times there.
Anyway, I was really excited about the fair, as I am every year – I am sorry. This blog is supposed to be about the store, and making cool stuff.
Sooo. I am getting back on track.
Ang & I (and Josh too) will be leaving for Chicago at 5am to attend the Renegade Craft Fair. We applied, but unfortunately we were not accepted. So, we are attending … and can’t be more excited about it!!!
I will be posting our adventure next week!
Ta-ta!!

MN State Fair – event of the year! August 25, 2007

5th place ribbon winner! Okay, I really didn’t think it possible – I have a state fair hangover! I was not even drinking. It is all due to how much I consumed, carried, pushed, stared, laughed … and did I mentioned consumed?
I am going to keep an ongoing list of what I have eaten during the duration. By duration I mean the duration of the fair, I will be going approx. 50% of the 12 days.
Thurs. Aug. 23 -opening day of the fair, rainy. We (Myself + 2 munchkins, Angela, Gina & her niece Alex) squished into the car and headed for Thrifty Thursday/ opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the MSF it is said to be 2nd only to the Texas State Fair. One day I will attend that fair as well, but until that day the MSF is the epitome of what a state fair should be. There is everything that makes Minnesota great except a lake on the grounds.
It was raining from the moment we entered the gates so most of the day we couldn’t be entertained by what others feel is appropriate fair attire. Most everyone was wearing a plastic bag inspired poncho that advertised one booth or another. In our desperstion to get rain gear Angela & I covered ourselves in bright yellow KQ92 (local classic rock) ponchos. I felt we were betraying the radio station we are so fond of, and quite honestly Ang & I don’t have big enough hair to really do a KQ poncho justice. They did protect us from the rain until we found the booth we were looking for.
We started our binge with one of my fair favorites -walleye cakes!! Delicous as always!! My husband and I talk about these tasty treats all year long. Never a disappointment.
My LuLu had been talking of nothing more than corndogs and cotton candy for well over a week now – so off we went to find her a corndog. A footlong corndog none the less! Perfect for sharing with her lil brother as well as a bite for the rest of us. While we grabbed the corndog Gina stopped at the next booth for strawberries topped with fresh whipped cream – the perfect breakfast.
Ahh! FM107!! My saving grace. Not only so you dispense a daily dose of sanity and humor, but your ponchos were much less humiliating. You both kept us dry, and were a very nice shade of white. We stopped by the booth to check out what actually happens on the radio that we can’t see. I was looking forward to seeing Andrew Zimmern & Colleen Kruze. Andrew wasn’t there unfortunately. I’d like to say for the record Colleen was much cuter in person than I had pictured in my crazy little head. Not to say that I thought she was anything but attractive, but she’s CUTE!! We made a plan to stop back to see Jori & Julia.
On our way to the Fine Arts building the Advil man gave us free samples! Pure brilliance! passing out Advil at the fair. I wanted to ask for more, but on second thought there were thousands of others braving the rain and dealing with small children who could use Advil as well. I shouldn’t get greedy. Gina & Ang stopped for some egg coffee – something I have yet to try. I haven’t given it a try simply because you are not allowed to bring food or bev. into the Fine Arts Building. I usually can’t wait to get in there and see all the cool, beautiful, creative works. There was a lot to see. Keeping in mind it was raining – there too many people in the building to get a really good look all of it. I will be back.
We meander down the street to the education building. LuLu has put on the child harness, people are staring, some laughing …. never considering she wanted and actually asked for the harness. The harness is helpful in her role playing – the role of the family dog is currently a fav. So Ang took the cutest little doggie/girl for a run. Ran right in to check out Ang’s cake entry. As you’ve noticed, Angela is a ribbon winner!! 5th place!! For those of you who were at our opening – you know how good those red velvet cupcakes are!!! CONGRATS TO ANG!!
i’ll write more tomorrow
Ang and her award winning red velvet cake
My friend Gina a.k.a. COOKIE makes a yearly pilgrimage to the fair from Atlanta GA. She keeps a running list as how many and what foods she eats in one day. She then frames that list along with pictures of that years fun fair festivities!!! I believe her record is 27 … I am not sure if she topped it yesterday or not. I am sure she had to pass along the rest of her funnel cake for fear she may explode internally. It was delicious!

i like you minneapolisI am new to all of this blogging stuff! I am so eager to introduce myself to this new world! I know blogging takes disipline … something I am short on sometimes. Actually I don’t know if it’s the disipline I am short on or time. Do I hear an Amen??
Anyway, back to my introduction. i like you is a duo … my name is Sarah – pleased to meet you.
I am fast approaching what some may consider to be middle -aged. I am the mother of 3. I am re-inventing myself. In my former life / career I was “Super-Server Sarah” (a name actually given to me by some super fabulous customers). I worked in the service / bar / restarant industry for 20 years. If I may say so …. I am a pretty damn good server! However, my belief being it is better to bow out gracefully at the top of your game, than to slide slowly down the age induced slippery slope of what once was …. “I was once” “back when I was” “you should have seen me when” – dah, ta-dah, ta-dumb. Come on! nobody wants someone who resembles their mom killing the buzz with references to music they have never heard of. As an afterthought, I really don’t look like your typical mom. In fact some times I get the feeling some people think people that look like me shouldn’t be allowed children.
I have turned a new corner in life”s travels. Ang (my better half in – i like you- I’m sure she’ll be contributing soon) and I opened a crafty little hand made goods consignment store featuring local talent. Our store – i like you- is located in south minneapolis. It is a quaint little shop full of color and creative spark! We make a variety of things as well as have over 50 consigners. I am hoping to use this blog as a means to showoff some of minneapolis’s finest crafters!
